Glitch Oil is a Japanese brand from the manufacturer Five Focus, focusing on a very narrow niche: highly specialized oils for ball bearings and mechanical components. What is one of many products for other care brands is the entire business for Glitch Oil. Each variant has been optimized for a very specific area of application after extensive testing and development.
The brand originally comes from the crossover area between run bikes, skateboards, bicycling, and fishing. Wherever mini bearings must run at maximum speed with minimal friction, the same requirement applies. It is precisely from this cross-comparison that the Anti-Newton Oil Technology was born, which made Glitch Oil a brand.
Conventional oils have a constant viscosity. Depending on temperature and pressure, they behave linearly: warm means thin, cold means thick. This is physically okay but not ideal for highly stressed mini bearings.
Glitch Oil is Anti-Newton Oil. That means: the viscosity adapts to the current load. At low speed, the oil remains thin and low-friction; under high load, the oil film becomes denser and protects the bearing from wear. Practically, this means:
The brand itself describes it like this: "Ultra-low viscosity with the unique ability to penetrate even the most incredible and impossible to reach corners." Plus: a durable protective film that does not disappear immediately despite the penetration ability.
Glitch Oil is not one oil but a family of several special variants, each developed for its own area of application.
The original and all-rounder. Ultra-low viscosity, optimized for miniature bearings such as spool bearings, knob bearings, and roller bearings. Compatible with standard steel bearings, ceramic hybrid bearings, and needle bearings. Just a few drops are enough to significantly increase rotational performance and reduce friction resistance.
Recommended for: Light Game, Trout Fishing, BFS Casting, Smelt Fishing. Wherever maximum casting performance with light lures is required. Also ideal as initial lubrication for new bearings delivered dry, which is standard for many tuning bearings.
The medium-weight variant with an anti-rust focus. ROSA contains the Glitch Oil base formula plus special lubricants and corrosion protection additives. Medium viscosity, lightly pink-colored for differentiation from other lines.
Recommended for: Saltwater use, jigging, shore jigging, heavy-duty casting, fishing in continuous rain. If your reel regularly comes into contact with saltwater or spray, ROSA is the right choice. Lasts longer than the High Spec Bearing Oil but has slightly less performance with ultra-light lures due to the somewhat higher viscosity.
The performance variant with a high PTFE content (Teflon). Ultra-low viscosity combined with Teflon microparticles that fill microscopic irregularities in the bearing surfaces. Colored red for differentiation.
Effect: maximum smoothing of the bearing running surface, best startability with the smallest movements, high heat resistance. For anglers seeking the absolute maximum casting performance and willing to re-oil a bit more often. Top-of-the-line in terms of casting distance and startup behavior.
The all-round solution with a focus on durability. Enhanced lubricating and rust protection additives in the Glitch Oil base oil. Despite low viscosity, a strong oil film forms that withstands the heaviest wear.
Special feature: The oil penetrates the entire bearing interior and protects even where other oils cannot reach. Reduces salt adhesion during saltwater use, and rotation can be easily restored after saltwater contact by rinsing with fresh water.
Recommended for anglers who rarely maintain but still want consistent performance throughout the season.
Glitch Oil is significantly more expensive than standard care oils. The reason lies in development and production: the brand works with highly pure special additives balanced through long test series. The "Anti-Newton" behavior is not a standard property of conventional lubricants but requires specific chemical compositions produced only in small artisanal batches.
The result is an oil that has hardly any direct competition in its category. Those who want to get maximum casting performance from their bearings will find it hard to pass up Glitch Oil.
Glitch Oil is to be used extremely sparingly. One drop per bearing is sufficient in most cases. More oil does not mean more performance but often the opposite, as excess oil binds dirt and dust.
Recommended application areas depending on the Glitch Oil variant:
For cleaning bearings before re-lubrication, a bearing cleaner or isopropanol is recommended. Never mix old oil with new oil; first clean out thoroughly and then treat fresh.
Which Glitch Oil variant suits your application depends on the area of use, reel type, and maintenance behavior. If you have questions, visit the contact page.
