The official tuning division of Daiwa

SLP Works stands for "Sports Life Planets" and is Daiwa’s official custom parts brand. This is the crucial difference from all other tuning brands on the market: SLP Works is not a third-party manufacturer trying to replicate compatible parts, but an in-house tuning division of Daiwa with direct access to the original design plans, tolerances, and material specifications.

Practically, this means: SLP Works parts are not "compatible with" Daiwa reels, they are developed specifically for those reels, often even with advance information about new Daiwa models, so suitable tuning parts are already available at the release of a new reel. When Daiwa introduces a new Exist, Certate, or Saltiga, SLP Works usually already has the matching custom Spools, Handles, and Star Drags in the pipeline.

What makes SLP Works special

Three points define the brand:

Original Daiwa technology: SLP Works parts use Daiwa’s proprietary technologies like ATD Type-L (Automatic Drag Type-L) on Spools or the SV BOOST technology on baitcasting Spools. These features are simply not available in third-party parts because they are based on Daiwa patents and internal developments.

Machine Cut Manufacturing: Most SLP Works components are machined from solid material, usually aluminum alloys. You can see this in the surface finish, the precision of the indexing, and the material feel. Premium manufacturing, made in Japan.

Model-specific development: While other manufacturers build universal parts that fit many reels, SLP Works often develops for a specific Daiwa model. An SLP Works Spool for the 22 EXIST fits exactly that reel, with all the technical details of the ATD drag and LT design.

The main product categories

Custom Spools: the core of the range. Air Spools for spinning reels, SV BOOST Spools for baitcasters, EX LT Spools for the LT series. Aluminum manufacturing, significantly lighter than the original Spools, with identical ATD drag technology. For 22 EXIST, 18 EXIST, 19 CERTATE, 21 LUVIAS AIRITY, 23 SALTIGA, and more.

Machine Cut Handles: aluminum cranks machined from solid, in lengths from 35mm to 60mm for small spinning reels or as 90mm double handles for UL and finesse setups. Featuring the characteristic gold-black designs that have made SLP Works a brand.

Star Drags: The SLPW SCLMC54 Star Drag in 54mm machine-cut version is the flagship for Daiwa baitcasters. Available in six colors, precise indexing, significantly higher quality than the original star drag.

Reel Stands: Reel Stand S and Reel Stand SII for Daiwa spinning reels, made from anodized aluminum.

Bearing Kits and Drag Washers: tuning components for the reel’s interior. Stainless steel ball bearings with higher precision than the originals, drag washers made from special materials for smoother drag characteristics.

Care products: SLP Works also offers its own oils and greases, tailored to Daiwa reel materials and tolerances.

RCS – Real Custom System

Within SLP Works there is the RCS line (Real Custom System). RCS parts are specially optimized for maximum performance, often as limited editions or with collaboration designs from professional anglers. If you’re operating in the top Daiwa segment (Exist, Certate SW, Saltiga, Steez), RCS is the line made for you.

Who is SLP Works worth it for?

SLP Works is premium-priced and mainly makes sense if you:

• have a high-quality Daiwa reel (from Caldia upwards, especially Certate, Exist, Saltiga) and want to upgrade it at the highest level
• value original Daiwa technology and don’t want to make third-party compromises
• are looking for specific tuning options only Daiwa can offer (ATD drag technology, SV BOOST, LT spool optimization)
• collect limited editions or special color designs

For cheaper Daiwa reels below the Caldia class, SLP Works is less worthwhile because the price-performance ratio becomes difficult in the lower reel segment.

Compatibility

SLP Works parts are generally model-specific. A custom Spool for the 22 EXIST does not automatically fit a 19 Certate, and a machine cut Handle for the LT-1000 class does not fit a 5000 reel. Always check before purchase whether the part is listed exactly for your reel model.
