FAQ – Crank Handles for Baitcasting Reels

Our knobs are compatible with many baitcasting reels that have a Type A or Type S knob mount. These systems are used on many reels from Shimano and Daiwa.

If your reel is not listed in the compatibility list, it does not automatically mean that the knob won’t fit. Many reels use the same knob mounts across several model generations.

In the tab “Your reel isn’t listed?” you will find instructions on how to check compatibility yourself.

Yes, in most cases it is very simple. On many reels, the knob is held in place by a small screw located under a cap on the knob.

If you loosen this screw, you can remove the old knob and install the new one. The replacement usually only takes a few minutes.

Usually, a small screwdriver is enough. With it, you can loosen the screw under the knob cap and remove the crank handle.

Installing a new knob is usually quick and does not require any special tools.

Type A and Type S are standardized knob mounts used on many fishing reels. They determine how the knob is attached to the crank.

Many baitcasting reels from Shimano and Daiwa use these systems, which is why our knobs are compatible with a wide range of reels.

The size of a knob is specified by the diameter at its thickest point.

Small knobs (approx. 18–20 mm) offer a very direct feel and are especially suitable for BFS and ultralight setups.

Medium knobs (approx. 21–24 mm) are very versatile and provide a good balance of comfort and control. They fit most all-round setups.

Larger knobs (approx. 25–27 mm) offer more grip surface and are comfortable when fighting bigger fish.

Very large knobs (30–40 mm) are often used in big bait or saltwater setups.

Technically, this is often possible as long as the recording fits. However, the size should be chosen sensibly according to the reel.

A very large or heavy knob can accelerate the crank more strongly due to its own weight and the resulting centrifugal force than some light reels are designed for.

Especially with very light baitcasting reels or BFS reels, a knob that is too large can increase the load on the gear. Therefore, it is advisable to use light and appropriately sized knobs for small reels.

The material mainly affects the grip feel.

EVA is very lightweight and non-slip.

TPE or silicone offer a soft surface and high comfort.

Cork provides a natural grip feel and is very light.

Carbon is extremely light and offers direct feedback.

Aluminum is very robust and durable.

Wood offers a unique look and a natural feel.

Rubber provides especially high grip, even when wet.

Which option fits best depends greatly on personal preferences and the area of use.
