RL-TNG EDGE Spool Bearing Set | ABEC 9 | Daiwa | 5x10x4 | 3x8x4

The EDGE Hybrid Ceramic Bearing Set for Daiwa Baitcaster in sizes 5x10x4 mm and 3x8x4 mm delivers just the right balance: ABEC 9 precision, high speed capability, and a hybrid design that performs reliably even after many tournament uses.

Construction and Material

EDGE bearings operate with ABEC 9 precision and use S25 hybrid ceramic balls combined with precision-made steel rings and a Japanese ribbon retainer. This hybrid design combines the speed advantages of ceramic with the durability of steel, for a balanced ratio between speed and durability.

  • ABEC 9 precision standard
  • S25 hybrid ceramic balls for high speeds and stability
  • Japanese ribbon retainer for smooth ball guidance
  • Available with or without Orange Seal

With Orange Seal or without Seal

EDGE reel bearings are available with or without Orange Seal. The sealed version offers additional protection against dirt and moisture, ideal for use in saltwater or changing conditions. The open version is designed for minimal resistance and maximum spinning enjoyment.

Recommended Application Range

The optimal application range is a casting weight of 5 to 100 g. This makes EDGE bearings ideal for all-round setups where different lure weights and fishing techniques are required.

Compatible reels can be found under the tab: Compatible Reels.

Classification within the RL-TNG Bearing Classes

For maximum spool acceleration and highest speeds in the ultralight BFS range, the APEX class with S30 ceramic balls and PEEK cage is the right choice, for 2 to 60 g. For maximum durability with heavy setups and consistently high loads, the CORE class with stainless steel balls is the more robust solution, for 8 to over 200 g. EDGE positions itself exactly in between and offers the most versatile performance for demanding baitcaster anglers.

FAQ – Spool Bearings for Baitcasting Reels

Yes. For maximum casting distance, smooth spool start, and harmonious running behavior, both relevant spool bearings should always be replaced at the same time.

Only then does the bearing upgrade fully unfold its effect.

Our spool bearing sets each include the two relevant bearings for your baitcasting reel.

This gives you the complete solution for a clean and coordinated upgrade.

An installation guide is not included.

If a bearing is mounted on the spool, it is usually held in place by a small retaining pin.

For a safe and damage-free removal, a Pin Remover is recommended.

This way, you avoid bent pins or damaged spool shafts.

APEX Bearings are ideal for very light to medium casting weights.

EDGE Bearings cover a wide all-round spectrum.

CORE Bearings are designed for higher continuous loads and heavy lures.

What matters is your typical area of use.

Open the sideplate of your reel and remove the spool.

If a bearing is located directly on the spool axle, this is the design with spool bearing.

If there is no bearing there, it is usually located in the sideplate under the spool tension.

For spool bearings, a single, thinly dosed drop of high-quality spool bearing oil is sufficient.

Too much oil creates unnecessary resistance and reduces the rotation speed.

Yes, absolutely. The DC system electronically regulates the brake curve, but it does not replace mechanical friction in the Spool bearing.

A high-quality Spool bearing significantly reduces this friction and noticeably improves the Spool start-up. The Spool starts faster, runs freer, and responds more sensitively.

This is especially noticeable in the light to medium casting weight range.

DC is not a brake against performance, but a complement to mechanical optimization. A precise Spool bearing and the DC system work together, not against each other.
