A fishing plier must excel at three things. Opening split rings without them flying away. Cutting line cleanly, including braided line. And removing hooks from fish without tearing their mouths. The Gomexus OSPRIKE does exactly that. And it weighs only 137 grams because Gomexus built the frame from stainless steel and machined the handles from aircraft-grade aluminum.
If you’ve ever spent a whole day at the water with a full steel plier, you know why 137 grams is a strong argument. If you’ve ever bent a pure aluminum plier, you know why a steel frame makes sense. The OSPRIKE combines both.
The name comes from the Osprey, the fish eagle. The bird of prey that grabs from the water with surgical precision and never lets go. That exact principle is built into the pliers. High precision at the tip, firm grip, but no unnecessary weight.
The OSPRIKE is no one-trick pony. It replaces four or five tools you’d normally have in your tackle box:
The frame is made from 17-4PH stainless steel. This is the steel type used in aircraft and tool manufacturing. Harder than regular 304 or 316 stainless steel, with enormous tensile strength. You can stress the OSPRIKE without it deforming.
The center pin is additionally made from 316 stainless steel, the seawater-resistant variant. The screws and torsion spring are made of titanium. Titanium simply doesn’t rust, no matter what you do with it. This combination ensures the mechanism still opens and closes smoothly even after years.
Gomexus tested the finished pliers in a 168-hour salt spray test. One week in a salt fog chamber. No rust, no corrosion, perfect function.
The two handle scales are made from aircraft-grade aluminum, anodized in a dual-color finish. Anodized means the color isn’t applied on top but baked into the surface. It won’t fade or scratch off.
The handle shape is machined with a curve from 15 to 25 degrees that fits perfectly in your palm. Anti-slip grooves ensure the pliers stay secure even with wet or fishy hands. Plus: a safety lock that prevents the pliers from opening uncontrollably in your tackle bag.
Gomexus tested the mechanism with over 2000 opening cycles. That’s more than most anglers need in ten years.
Honestly: if you only occasionally swap a treble hook, a cheap plier from the hardware store will do. But if you’re regularly at the water, quality pays off. The OSPRIKE is the choice for:
Both pliers come from the same Gomexus family and use the same 17-4PH stainless steel frame. The Exoskeleton is made entirely of stainless steel, more robust and heavier. The OSPRIKE has the aluminum handle, titanium components, and is significantly lighter at 137 g. If you travel minimalist and value weight and premium mechanics, go for the OSPRIKE. If you want maximum durability and do rougher work, the Exoskeleton is better suited.
