Our spool bearings differ in material composition, ball quality, cage system, ABEC precision class, and optimal tuning for your casting weight. Each class is designed for a specific application. The decisive factor is not just the ABEC rating, but the entire construction and its tuning to your setup.
Apex bearings are our uncompromising high-performance option. They consist of ABEC 9 precision-made stainless steel rings, equipped with S30 ceramic balls and a PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) ribbon cage.
S30 ceramic balls enable extremely low friction and very high speeds. The PEEK ribbon retainer is a high-performance cage that ensures stability, temperature resistance, and reliable ball guidance at very high speeds.
Thanks to this design, the spool of your baitcasting reel starts very quickly and reaches extremely high speeds, especially in the lower casting weight range.
Sweet spot casting weight: 2 to 60 g
If you mostly fish well above this range, a slightly more robustly tuned design makes sense. In this case, switching to the Edge class is recommended.
Edge bearings are also based on an ABEC 9 precision standard. They use S25 ceramic balls combined with precision-made steel rings and a Japanese ribbon retainer.
Compared to Apex, Edge is tuned to be a bit more versatile. The design offers high speed capability combined with more mechanical stability for a broader range of applications.
Edge bearings are available in two variants:
Sweet spot casting weight: 5 to 100 g
If your setup regularly exceeds this range significantly, the Core class is the technically more suitable choice.
Core bearings consist of ABEC 5 precision-made stainless steel bearings with a stable ball and cage construction. They are designed for durability, continuous use, and consistent performance.
ABEC 5 here does not mean lower quality but a more robust tuning compared to high-speed hybrid ceramic bearings.
Sweet spot casting weight: 8 g to over 200 g
All our spool bearings are high-quality manufactured and designed for high speeds. The crucial difference lies in the tuning to your actual lure spectrum.
Those who mostly fish very light lures benefit from maximum startup dynamics. Those covering a broader spectrum should choose a more versatile tuning. Those who consistently cast heavy should rely on robust stability.
The best performance arises when bearing class and casting weight match.
The Aldebaran BFS 16 Bearing Tuning Kit is built exactly for those who want to get the maximum out of their BFS reel. Because especially with light setups, you notice every little friction immediately. Out of the box, the Aldebaran runs well, but not perfectly tuned. This kit replaces all crucial bearing positions and simultaneously eliminates typical weak points like plastic bushings. This gives you a noticeably freer spool start, more control with light lures, and a setup that simply feels clean and direct. 🎯
Especially with BFS reels, it’s not enough to just replace one or two bearings. Many do exactly that and then wonder why the reel doesn’t deliver what they expect. The reason is simple: performance comes from the interaction of all bearing positions. If the worm shaft, pinion gear, or gear support still cause drag, the best spool bearing will only help to a limited extent. With this Aldebaran BFS Bearing Kit, the system is optimized as a whole, and that’s exactly why the reel feels noticeably freer, smoother, and more controlled afterward. And yes, you’ll notice it right on the first cast.
Here you don’t get a half upgrade, but a fully coordinated set with exactly the bearings that make the difference in the right places.
Total, 10 ball bearings, no unnecessary parts, just the exact combination that really delivers performance in a BFS reel.
The difference isn’t on paper but right on the water. The spool reaches speed faster, runs freer, and allows finer control. Especially with light lures, this means less effort and more precision. At the same time, cranking feels smoother and less "scratchy" because multiple friction points in the system are eliminated. This is exactly the point where a good reel becomes a perfectly tuned setup.
Pro Tip: Especially with BFS applications, less oil is crucial because only then do you get the maximum free spin and the control you want.
Safety note: When removing pins and bearings, always work cleanly and do not force pressure, because damaged parts will cost you more in the end than any upgrade.
Fits immediately, no guessing, no parts mixing, just install and done. Exactly how you want it when you’re done with half measures.
Pin on the spool? Then use the Pin Remover, because it lets you work cleanly and without risk.
If you really want to get the most out of your BFS Reel, then a clean complete upgrade is essential. This Aldebaran BFS 16 Bearing Tuning Kit gives you exactly that, a coordinated system of 10 bearings that noticeably improves spool start, smoothness, and control. More precision, more feel, and a setup that finally feels the way you imagine it. That’s exactly what makes the difference between standard and truly great in the end.
